Ombudsman Joins Ka Ying Rising Atop Racehorse Rankings

Ka Ying Rising (NZ) no longer stands alone at the top of the Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings. The rankings released July 9 place Ombudsman (IRE), unbeaten in three starts this year, alongside the Hong Kong sprint sensation, with the former posting a career-high rating of 131 following his emphatic victory in the June 17 Prince of Wales's Stakes (G1) at Royal Ascot. Ka Ying Rising, a winner of 20 consecutive races, also saw his rating rise one point to 131. Bow Echo (IRE), Daryz (FR), and Romantic Warrior (IRE) share third place with ratings of 126. Compiled by the Longines World's Best Racehorse Rankings Committee and published by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities, the rankings evaluate the performances of horses age 3 and older through July 5. Winchell Thoroughbreds' Magnitude continued his ascent. The National Thoroughbred Racing Association's top-ranked horse improved to a rating of 124, placing him in a tie for eighth place, following his 1 1/4-length victory in the June 27 Stephen Foster Stakes (G1) at Churchill Downs over a sloppy track. Trained by Steve Asmussen, Magnitude defeated Baeza, with 2025 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Sovereignty finishing third and White Abarrio fourth. White Abarrio, Sovereignty, and Baeza are rated at 124, 122, and 121, respectively. The Stephen Foster marked Magnitude's return to racing since his defeat of Japanese star Forever Young (JPN) in the Dubai World Cup (G1) at Meydan Racecourse in late March. Metropolitan Handicap (G1) winner Nysos remains the highest-rated dirt horse at 125, sharing sixth with British turf miler Notable Speech (GB).
