Sovereignty, Nitrogen Remain Atop NTRA Poll

With a relatively quiet weekend of top racing in the United States Aug. 14-16, the National Thoroughbred Racing Association's top 10 saw no changes when the Top Thoroughbred Poll was released Aug. 18. Two winners did garner enough support to appear on the ballots of the national media members who vote on the weekly poll. Michael Tabor's Christophe Clement Turf Stakes (G1T) winner Survie (IRE), who earlier won the Aug. 2 Glens Falls Stakes (G2T), received 21 points in the vote to tie for 12th with Counting Stars and Baeza. Gainesway Stable and Andrew Rosen's King's Plate winner Luster received seven points after dominating the boys in Canada's most prestigious race, placing her 19th. The Whitney Stakes (G1) exacta remains the top two in the vote, with Godolphin's Sovereignty receiving 292 points while taking 26 of the 30 first-place votes. D. J. Stable's Nitrogen ranks second with 212 points. St. Elias Stable, Ken Langone, Steven Duncker, and Vicarage Stable's third-ranked Deterministic and Winchell Thoroughbreds' fourth-ranked Magnitude each received two first-place votes. Ninth-ranked Knightsbridge will be in action Aug. 22 at Del Mar for Godolphin as the Bill Mott trainee takes on 10 rivals in the $1 million Pacific Classic (G1). West Point Thoroughbreds' Counting Stars also aims to possibly break into the top 10 should she continue her dominance of the 3-year-old filly division Saturday in the $600,000 Alabama Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course. Individual votes by voter can be found online. See the full results for the NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll
