At a Glance: Movie Night Projects as Top Raven Run Bet

For a fleet, 3-year-old filly sprinter who may not be ready to face their elders in the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1), the Raven Run Stakes (G2) Oct. 17 at Keeneland is a rather nice option. With a $400,000 purse on the line, the Raven Run can serve as an effective springboard to a 4-year-old campaign. The presence of a full field of 12 reflects the importance of the stakes as the year draws closer to a conclusion. 1. Army's Marauder: Comes off a maiden win in a modest final time. Seems a big ask to step up and face this field. JOCKEY: Luis Saez; TRAINER: Christopher Davis 2. Mythical: Would be easier to like if the race was at Gulfstream Park, where she has four stakes wins. Was second to one of the top contenders, Mashallah, in the Prioress Stakes (G3) at Saratoga Race Course in her previous start. But she was 5 lengths behind and there's little reason to believe she'll make up that difference here. JOCKEY: Emisael Jaramillo; TRAINER: Jorge Delgado 3. Hen Party: Was third in the aforementioned Prioress, 6 lengths behind, in her first start on dirt. Could benefit from a fast pace. JOCKEY: Rafael Bejarano; TRAINER: Eoin Harty 4. Coco Connect: Last time in a dirt stakes, she was fourth by 8 1/4 lengths in the Beaumont Stakes (G2) at Keeneland in the spring. Her comeback race at Kentucky Downs on turf was uninspiring. JOCKEY: Edgar Morales; TRAINER: John Ennis 5. Yo Fancy: Was third in an allowance in her third start. Has late speed but would need to take a big step forward here. JOCKEY: Cristian Torres; TRAINER: Ian Wilkes 6. Percy's Bar: Won the 1 1/16-mile Ashland Stakes (G1) here in the spring and last year finished first in the Alcibiades Stakes (G1) on this surface but was demoted to second for interference. Rallied for second in the Test Stakes (G1) at Saratoga, but then flopped on turf in a Kentucky Downs sprint stakes. If she duplicates her effort in the Test, she can be a main threat. Getting Jose Ortiz to ride is an upgrade. JOCKEY: Jose Ortiz; TRAINER: Ben Colebrook 7. A Fine Chardonnay: Won the Beaumont in the spring, though it was on a muddy track. Hasn't won since then, but has placed in stakes company twice and could land in the exotics at a nice price. JOCKEY: Brian Hernandez Jr.; TRAINER: Ian Wilkes 8. Conceit: Has won her past three starts for trainer Brad Cox. Her most recent win came in the Dogwood Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs, beating the highly regarded Explora. Beat A Fine Chardonnay in the Audubon Oaks at Ellis Park and looms as one of the top contenders. JOCKEY: Irad Ortiz Jr.; TRAINER: Brad Cox 9. Mashallah: Comes off a 5-length win in the Prioress and has four wins in five career starts. Cannot be ignored, though she will be part of the early pace and could face a lot of pressure on the front end. JOCKEY: Tyler Gaffalione; TRAINER: Brendan Walsh 10. With a Kiss: Returned last month after an 11-month layoff since her debut win and beat older rivals in an allowance race at Saratoga. Faces tough company here, but she is in capable hands and if she improve off that race. She should be in the picture. JOCKEY: John Velazquez; TRAINER: Todd Pletcher 11. Movie Night: Was third, only a neck behind, in the Dogwood. Tired badly in the Test before that, but that was her only poor effort in five career starts. Gets Flavien Prat here and if he can harness her speed from an outside post, she could work out a great trip. JOCKEY: Flavien Prat; TRAINER: Will Walden 12. Star Actress: Was third in the Ashland and missed by a neck in a 6 1/2-furlong Saratoga allowance sprint last time. There are things to like, but she seems better suited for a two-turn race. JOCKEY: Junior Alvarado; TRAINER: Bill Mott THE PICK: Movie Night LIVE LONGSHOT: With a Kiss SUPERFECTA: 11-6-8-9
