Breeders' Cup Notebook: Fully Subscribed Looks 'Great'
Klaravich Stables' Fully Subscribed went back to the track Oct. 26 for the first time since her final breeze two days earlier toward the $2 million Breeders' Cup Distaff (G1), a bullet-of-19 5 furlongs in 1:00 2/5. Trained by Chad Brown, the consistent daughter of Tiz The Law boasts a 6-3-1 record from 10 starts, including 3-2-0 from five in 2026. Last out, she was a dominant winner of the Spinster Stakes (G1) over course and distance. "She looks great," Brown said. "She has all her energy after a little maintenance move—a couple maintenance moves—since the Spinster. She worked easy." Patiently handled, the $300,000 purchase who was selected by Brown at the Ocala Breeders' 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale in 2024, she did not make her stakes debut until the autumn of her sophomore season, winning both attempts in the Mother Goose (G2) and Comely (G3) over the Distaff's 9-furlong distance. Returning to action and given her first go at top-level company this year, she was second in the La Troienne (G1) in May before losing to divisional leader Nitrogen by 12 3/4 lengths in the Ogden Phipps (G1). Since then, she has markedly upped her output, winning the Shuvee (G2), Personal Ensign (G1), and Spinster in succession. "She threw one race in there this year that was subpar, that 12-length loss to Nitrogen, where she just wasn't herself in the stretch there," Brown explained. "I'm not saying she should have won there, but she shouldn't have been beaten 11 lengths to her. I have no excuse for it, but I will say that there is not that much difference between these two fillies. She came back and trained super and has run some outstanding races, back-to-back. I have her right where I want her right now." All considered, it appears that divisional honors are very much on the line in her highly anticipated rematch with Nitrogen. Ready to Step Up 2024 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) winner Immersive, that year's champion 2-year-old filly, looked full of energy returning from a light training session Monday morning, high-stepping almost sideways alongside a stable pony as she came back to the gap after jogging a mile in her first day back to the track after breezing Saturday. But that's par for the course for Immersive. "We could definitely take some speed off her fastball," trainer Brad Cox joked. "But she's doing well; she looks amazing." Immersive, a Godolphin homebred, was most recently third in a short field in the Spinster Stakes at Keeneland, where she has remained through the month of October. "She's one that takes a little schooling," Cox said. "You know, prior to the race, she can kind of get a little worked up and excited in the paddock and in the post parade. So, we'll do the best we can do to try to keep her calm and relaxed, and hopefully we can do that, she can conserve some of her energy." In recent races, Immersive has been accompanied by a pony horse in the paddock to help keep her relaxed. Cox said he hopes to be able to do so on Saturday, as well. On the Cusp of Something Big? When she came into the barn a couple of months ago, trainer Wesley Ward was impressed with what he saw in 4-year-old filly Eccentric (CHI). She was sent to America from Chile by owner/breeder Don Alberto Haras with the hope of doing some big things. She gets her chance Oct. 31 when she runs in the $5 million Breeders' Cup Turf (G1T). Eccentric will attempt to become the sixth filly—and first since Tarnawa (IRE) in 2020—to win the 1 1/2-mile marathon. "She is a sweetheart of a filly," Ward said. "We have no issues to train her, and she is getting better as she has been getting fitter at Keeneland." In 13 starts in Chile with trainer Patricio Baeza Alamos, Eccentric, a daughter of Ivan Denisovich (IRE), won six times and also had four seconds and two thirds. She has not raced since May 31 when she won the Club Hipico de Santiago-Falabella Breeders' Cup (G1) in Chile. That race is a "Win and You're In" for the Breeders' Cup Turf. The filly was then sent to Ward to prepare her for the Breeders' Cup. She has had seven workouts since arriving in Ward's barn, the latest being a 5-furlong breeze in 1:05 4/5 last Tuesday. Ward knows the challenge of winning this grueling race. It has been won by foreign trainers the last six years and in 10 of the last 11. "She looks the picture," Ward said. "I only wish I could have gotten a prep race for her but there was no time. You certainly want her proven in America before you take on the best in the world. She was extremely talented in her own country, so, will it translate here? It's tough to say." Japanese Connections Japan's Breeders' Cup runners continued their preparations. Four horses went onto the track during the morning: Lord Fons (JPN), T O Password (JPN), T O Elvis, and Lugal (JPN). T O Password and T O Elvis first loosened up on the training track before completing one easy circuit of the main track at a light canter. Lugal also did some light work on the training track before jogging three circuits of the main track. All three were kept to relatively easy exercise. Meanwhile, Forever Young (JPN) and American Stage, who had both been on the track the previous day, were restricted to hand-walking in front of the barn.
Deep Monster (JPN), who is set to run in the Breeders' Cup Turf, completed only a light hack on the training track before wrapping up his work for the day.
