Podcast Playback: Quotes of Interest From Oct. 21-27
The Show: HRRN Equine Forum, Oct 27 The speaker: Junior Alvarado, jockey for Sovereignty in the Oct. 31 Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) at Keeneland The topic: Discussing having Sovereignty's stablemate Knightsbridge in the Classic The quote: "He's just an easy horse to ride. He's got speed. He's gonna go probably to the lead. I rode him before, and seeing the horses that are in the race, I doubt that there's any faster horse than him in the first part of the race. So, hopefully, he goes out there and, for me, I will hope the other guys that got a little bit of speed gonna chase him down, so that way they can set up for me. "For me, being selfish, I was hoping he was running in the (Dirt) Mile, so that way I can have two horses and one less enemy in the Classic. But, they did what is right for him. I think he's a horse who deserves to be in the Classic. He has done everything right this year, won the Pacific Classic last time. So, it'll be a good show to have him in the Classic." The Show: Nick Luck Daily Podcast, Oct. 27 The speaker: Miguel Clement, who will train Deterministic in the Breeders' Cup Mile (G1T) Oct. 31 at Keeneland The topic: Deterministic's chances against last year's Mile winner Notable Speech (GB) after facing him in the Woodbine Mile Stakes (G1T) Sept. 12 at Woodbine The quote: "Notable Speech is a very good horse. I think he's won about six or seven group 1s, grade 1s, but it was a bit of a falsely run race. It was a bit of a match race in that sense. It was a long stretch, and I think with more of a realistically run race, the dynamics will change a bit. So, hopefully, that can help benefit us. He's been training very well. He's doing great with his weight, his color, and at this time of the year, I wouldn't trade places with anyone else right now. "Mentally, he's remarkable. That's probably what separates him the most is his mental components. He's very, very easy to train. So he makes my life incredibly easy." The Show: BloodHorse Monday, Oct. 26 The speaker: Scott Burton, Racing Post's Paris correspondent The topic: The European contingent for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T) to be run Oct. 30 at Keeneland The quote: "Green Empress, if we start with her, was very, very good in the Prix Marcel Boussac and that's usually a race that the form you can take to the bank in terms of what happens the following year. That's potentially a bit more of a clue to 3-year-old form. But Sun Goddess has been remarkable this year. She's just carried on, turning up and winning and winning and winning. … She's won three group 1s, and the funny thing about her is, she will at some stage in the run, whatever the configuration of the track, whatever the distance, we have to remember she has not actually gone a mile yet, she will look like she hits a flat spot, she'll look like she's in trouble, but she just is so strong through the line. "I'm a massive fan of Amusingly for Francis Graffard and for Juddmonte. She's undoubtedly France's best chance of having a winner over the course of the two days and, at some stage, she's going to make Sun Goddess look quite slow, but whether she's still in front of the line, I'd like to think that Amusingly can just get the run of the race and hold on. But Sun Goddess will be so strong at the line. She hasn't yet been a mile. Green Empress has won over a mile, and that was a strongly run mile in the Prix Marcel Boussac. So, it is just a fascinating race. Probably wouldn't be one I'd be having a financial interest in but, with three top fillies, it could be a really, really special event."
