Dosage System Picks Up Eight New European 'Chefs'
Steve Roman and Ken Kush have designated eight new European sires as chefs-de-race, meaning their aptitudinal assignments will now contribute to Dosage pedigree profiles. Six of the eight stallions are currently ranked among the top 10 for flat racing in Great Britain and Ireland on RacingPost.com, including the top four sires: Night of Thunder (IRE), Frankel (GB), Wootton Bassett, and Sea The Stars (IRE). Under Roman's Dosage system, "chefs" are identified if their progeny excel above and beyond at a specific distance or distances. Stallions showing such prepotency are then assigned to one or two of five aptitudinal groups—Brilliant, Intermediate, Classic, Solid, or Professional. The Brilliant category represents pure speed, while the Professional end of the spectrum includes the hardiest stayers. Each of the five aptitudinal groups corresponds to a point along a scale: Brilliant (B) at +2.00, Intermediate (I) at +1.00, Classic (C) at 0.00, Solid (S) at -1.00, and Professional (P) at -2.00. A stallion's place on the scale identifies his Center of Distribution, which is considered to be a more accurate measure of aptitudinal type. Seven of the eight additions have been assigned to the Classic group, with five of these added to additional groups skewed toward speed. Both Night of Thunder and Too Darn Hot (GB) have been assigned to both Classic and Brilliant groups. Only one sire, Sea The Stars, has an additional assignment toward the stamina end of the spectrum.
