Taylor Made Has Well-Related Mares in Keeneland Book 2

As per usual, Taylor Made Sales Agency is locked and loaded with plenty of quality offerings in the Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, and its Book 2 offerings Nov. 4-5 include several well-related mares available to buyers. One of those who will be entering the ring Wednesday is Seraphia, a daughter of Gun Runner bred in Kentucky by Newstead Corp. and consigned as Hip 598. The 4-year-old filly is out of the winning Tapit mare Temptress, who has produced five winners from eight to race and is a half sister to grade 3 winner Donegal Moon. One of Temptress' winning foals is Tenfold, victor of the 2018 Jim Dandy Stakes (G2) and 2019 Pimlico Special Stakes (G3) and who placed in the 2018 Preakness Stakes (G1) and 2020 Hollywood Gold Cup Stakes (G1) during a career that earned more than $1.2 million. Seraphia's third dam is six-time grade 1 winner Possibly Perfect. Seraphia has already impressed in her previous appearances in the sales ring. As a weanling in the ELiTE consignment at Fasig-Tipton's 2022 The November Sale, she brought $675,000. Then, as a yearling the next summer at Fasig-Tipton's The Saratoga Sale, she brought $1 million out of the Hill 'n' Dale at Xalapa consignment. Trained by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen for Twin Creeks Racing Stables, Jackpot Farm, Whispering Oaks Farm, and Ronald Ortyl, Seraphia was a winner and placed in five stakes while earning $254,367. "This filly had talent. She's only 4, and she's very good-looking," Taylor Made president and CEO Mark Taylor said. "I think she's kind of got the whole package. I think she has to be one of the standouts on offer Wednesday. "You've got Possibly Perfect as the third dam, the first dam has already produced a Jim Dandy winner and a horse that was third in the Preakness, one of the top-echelon 3-year-olds of his generation. It's a family that just keeps producing and she, as they say, checks all the boxes. She's a turnkey opportunity to play at the top end of the market." Another plus in Seraphia's corner is having elite stallion Gun Runner as her sire. Taylor said he's "very bullish" on mares sired by the Three Chimneys Farm stallion. "He's already gotten off to a great start as a broodmare sire with very limited opportunity," Taylor said. "He's such a well-bred horse and, obviously, a prolific sire. I think that he's wide open to work with a lot of the blood that's out there with a lot of the sires coming in. I think 10 years from now, he's got every right to be a Bernardini-type influence as a broodmare sire. That's the No. 1 thing." Another sire Taylor is bullish on is Goal Oriented, who has his first covered mares entering the sales ring this fall. One of those mares is the Taylor Made-consigned Starship Incentive, an unraced daughter of Curlin who will enter the ring Wednesday as Hip 645. The 2025 Malibu Stakes (G1)-winning Goal Oriented stood his first season at Spendthrift Farm in 2026 and is a son of Taylor Made stallion Not This Time, who is second to Into Mischief on the general sire list as of Nov. 3 after leading the seven-time reigning leading sire for most of the year. With Not This Time's success, his stud fee has risen all the way to $300,000 for the 2027 season. Goal Oriented, along with other Not This Time sons such as Cogburn, Epicenter, Magnitude, and Up to the Mark, open that bloodline to more breeders at a lower price. "I think Not This Time has ascended to the top of the ranks and most people can't afford to breed to him and he can only breed so many mares," Taylor said. "The people that can't get into him can with one of his sons, and I think Goal Oriented obviously is one of those that's at the top of the pecking order. I think the market is going to be very bullish on him as a covering sire this year, and then also they're going to really look forward to seeing those weanlings this time next year." In addition to carrying a Goal Oriented foal, the Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings-bred Starship Incentive carries a strong pedigree herself. She is out of the unraced Bernardini mare Havisham, making her a half sister to 2019 Kentucky Oaks (G1) and 2020 Ballerina Stakes (G1) winner Serengeti Empress. Serengeti Empress produced stakes-placed Invictus as her only foal to race so far, and the family also contains the multiple Argentinian group 1-placed Lethal Weapon through the third dam Le Midi. "It's a very good family," Taylor said. "You've just kind of got what everybody's looking for. A half sister to an incredible multiple grade 1 winner, she's by one of the top sires in Curlin, comes from a good female family down the page, and she's in foal to a young horse that was hard to get into at Spendthrift. She checks all the boxes also." One of the highlights of Taylor Made's Thursday offerings in the second session of Book 2 is Summerintahoe, Hip 1079, a gray or roan Tapit mare. Bred in Kentucky by Fred Hertrich III and the Tapit Syndicate, the mare was purchased for $200,000 at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale by Tier Racing and went on to become a stakes winner earning a few dollars short of $300,000 for trainer Michael Ewing. Summerintahoe is out of the stakes-placed Pioneerof the Nile mare Tossup, who has produced three winners from three starters. Tossup is a half sister to multiple stakes winner and grade 3-placed Pauseforthecause and multiple stakes-placed Aggelos the Great through her stakes-winning and grade 1-placed dam Spritely. "This is a very good-looking Tapit mare; beautiful balance," Taylor said. "She could have easily been in Book 1, but she landed on the second day of Book 2, so I think she's going to be one of the last opportunities to get all those components in one broodmare prospect. "You've got sire in Tapit, you've got race record, and you've got female family and conformation. There's not going to be many coming after her that have all those things going for them. I think she's one buyers need to be paying attention to on the second day of Book 2."
