Local Knowledge to Enter Stud at Spendthrift in 2027

Spendthrift Farm announced Nov. 4 that Local Knowledge, a grade 1-placed, grade 2-winning son of promising young sire Yaupon, will join its stallion roster for the 2027 breeding season. A talented sprinter with speed, Local Knowledge won his racing debut in October 2025 at Keeneland by 1 1/4 lengths and defeated a field that included future grade 1 winner Commandment. He went on at 3 to win the Amsterdam Stakes (G2) at Saratoga Race Course and ran third in the H. Allen Jerkens Memorial Stakes (G1) behind Englishman and Deep Flame. He earned a 111 Equibase Speed Figure in the Amsterdam. Stoneriggs Farm bred Local Knowledge out of the Scat Daddy winner Chestnut Street, who is also the dam of graded-placed winner Ang N Ash. Chestnut Street also is a half sister to multiple stakes winner Saratoga Snacks, and the immediate family has produced grade 1 winner Without Feathers and multiple stakes winners Split Time, Currency Arbitrage, and Copper Mount. Spendthrift bought Local Knowledge for $625,000 at the 2025 Ocala Breeders' Sales Spring 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale, where the colt worked in a quarter-mile in :20 2/5 during the under-tack show. Yaupon, a grade 1-winning son of Uncle Mo, got off to a fast start as a sire, becoming the leading North American freshman sire for 2025 with nearly $2.9 million in progeny earnings and also leading his sire class with eight black-type winners. He has continued the momentum as this year's leading second-crop sire with more than $8.7 million in progeny earnings. This year, Yaupon has sired 15 black-type winners that include seven graded stakes winners. Spendthrift sees great potential with Local Knowledge due to his combination of natural speed, graded stakes ability, and a pedigree backed by an emerging sire line. "We're excited to welcome Local Knowledge to our stallion roster," said Ned Toffey, general manager and COO of Spendthrift Farm. "Yaupon has made an immediate impact as a young sire, and Local Knowledge is another example of the talent he's passing along. He's an outstanding physical with the speed, pedigree, and athleticism that breeders are looking for. We believe he has all the qualities to make an exciting stallion prospect, and we look forward to giving him every opportunity to succeed at stud." Local Knowledge will stand his inaugural season at Spendthrift Farm for $12,500 with a stands and nurses guarantee with a limited number of Share the Upside spots available
