Whisper Hill Farm Takes Turn as Keeneland Seller
Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale attendees are accustomed to seeing Mandy Pope and her Whisper Hill Farm operation on the buying end of the auction ring, including during the opening session of the ongoing sale, when she purchased broodmare Flag Day for $2.9 million and a weanling filly by Good Magic for $1.05 million. But during the third session Nov. 5, Whisper Hill Farm will also be represented on the selling side, with six broodmares and three weanlings included in the Gainesway consignment. Among the offerings are Hip 810, a weanling colt by 2023 Preakness Stakes (G1) winner National Treasure; Hip 885, a Medaglia d'Oro mare who is a half sister to grade 1 winner and leading sire Constitution; and Hip 914, a Super Saver mare who is a half sister to 2025 champion turf female She Feels Pretty. The weanling colt is out of Dance Quietly, who has produced four winners from eight foals who have raced. She is a stakes-winning daughter of A.P. Indy and half sister to grade 1 winners Saint Liam and Funtastic. She is also a half sister to Quiet Giant (Giant's Causeway), the dam of multiple grade 1 winner and sire Gun Runner. Her top runner is stakes winner Dance d'Oro, a daughter of Medaglia d'Oro who captured the 2021 Rampart Stakes. Another of her foals is Glory and Power, another winning Medaglia d'Oro mare who earned $41,865 before producing multiple stakes-placed dirt stayer Game Warden (Tapit). National Treasure, a son of Quality Road, ranked among the leading 3-year-olds of 2023 before adding victories in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) and Metropolitan Handicap (G1) the following year. He was named champion dirt male of 2024. National Treasure entered stud the following season, making his first foals weanlings this year. He will stand for a fee of $30,000 in 2027 at Spendthrift Farm near Lexington. Hip 885,I'm Baffled, is an unplaced daughter of Medaglia d'Oro but who comes from a notable female family. In addition to being a half sister to Florida Derby (G1) winner Constitution, she is related to group winner Boynton (More Than Ready) and graded winner Jacaranda (Congrats). Jacaranda has become a successful broodmare with her leading offspring Be You, a stakes winner who is twice graded stakes-placed, as well as stakes-placed American West, who has since produced two stakes-placed foals. I'm Baffled's only foal to race I'm a Gunner (Gun Runner), began his career this summer at age 3. He finished third in his debut Aug. 22 at Gulfstream Park before running fifth Oct. 22 at Belmont Park. Her other foals are unraced, although only one besides I'm a Gunner is of racing age: a 2-year-old filly by Tapit. Whisper Hill Farm purchased I'm Baffled for $1.1 million at the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. She is in foal to Flightline, the fifth-ranked first-crop sire in North America. Flightline will stand for $125,000 next year at Lane's End near Versailles, Ky. Hip 914, Lakeside Music, won her debut in 2022 at Churchill Downs before finishing unplaced in three subsequent starts for then-owner Twin Hopes Farm and Downunder Cable and trainer James Spicer. Whisper Hill Farm purchased her in foal to Munnings at the 2024 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale. At the time, her half sister She Feels Pretty was already a multiple grade 1 winner, though not yet an Eclipse Award winner. She Feels Pretty secured that prize the next season in 2025, when she compiled a 3-2-0 record from five starts. Her victories included the Modesty Stakes (G3T), New York Stakes (G1T), and E. P. Taylor Stakes (G1T). Her only losses that season came in runner-up finishes in the Diana Stakes (G1T) and Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1T). She Feels Pretty is the leading performer among the first four foals out of Summer Sweet, a daughter of More Than Ready. The Munnings filly that Lakeside Music was carrying when the latter was purchased in the fall of 2024 is now a yearling. She also has a filly by American Pharoah born this year. Lakeside Music is in foal to Oscar Performance on a March cover. Oscar Performance, ranked 13th among turf sires in North America, will stand for $60,000 next year at Mill Ridge Farm near Lexington.
