Longshot Science Friction overcame a rough start in the second race Oct. 2 at Gulfstream Park to win in front-running style, giving graded stakes winner and Louisiana-based freshman sire Ocean Knight his first winner.
The bay filly owned by Big Bang Racing and trained by Armando de la Cerda won the seven-furlong $23,000 maiden race for fillies by 1 1/2 lengths. The final time was 1:27.09. She won in her second start.
Bred in Florida by Debbie Walsh, Science Friction is out of the winning Imperialism mare Political Miss. The mare won $162,135 as a racehorse and now has produced two winners from as many to race. The family has produced Cryptic, a grade 3-placed stakes winner by Roberto. RDZ Farm bought Science Friction for $4,000 at the 2020 Ocala Breeders' Sales October Yearling Sale from Getaway Farm's consignment.
Ocean Knight is a grade 3-winning son of Curlin out of the Stormy Atlantic mare Ocean Goddess. He won his only start at 2 and at 3 won the Sam F. Davis Stakes (G3) at Tampa Bay Downs for Stonestreet Stables and trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. He also finished third in the Discovery Handicap (G3) at 3 and was third in the Kelso Handicap (G2) at 4. He was retired with 4-3-2 record from 15 starts and earned $390,000.
