Ashford Stud's freshman sire Mo Town was represented by his first winner April 13 in the day's first race at Keeneland where Randle Glosson's Mr. Gordy won gate to wire for his racing debut.
Bred in Kentucky by Jamie Valenzuela, Mr. Gordy is the first foal out of the winning Congrats mare Sky Trail. The mare is out of the multiple stakes winner Starry Pursuit, who earned nearly $195,000 on the track and produced five winners from six to race. Sky Trail is expecting a foal this year by World of Trouble.
Trainer John Hancock said he has two horses in his barn by Mo Town and is impressed with both. The other colt, Mo's Treasure, finished third in his debut April 8 on opening day at Keeneland.
"Anybody going to the (Ocala Breeders' Sales) April sale needs to put this sire on the top of their list," he said. "They have a great head on them, love to train, and they're very intelligent horses. I love their conformation, but they also handle the crowds."
Mo Town, an 8-year-old son of Uncle Mo, won two of three starts at 2, including the Remsen Stakes (G2). He went on at 3 to win the Hollywood Derby (G1T). He retired with a 4-1-2 record from 10 starts and earned $519,600. He stands at Ashford for $7,500.
