MyRacehorse is proud to welcome actress, model, and humanitarian Bo Derek to the MyRacehorse owner community as its first-ever celebrity ambassador. While Derek has long been a supporter of Thoroughbred racing, she has never taken the plunge into ownership until now. I'm a Looker '20, a 2-year-old son of the late, great, Pioneerof the Nile, sire of 2015 Triple Crown winner American Pharoah, caught Derek's eye as her first MyRacehorse purchase.
Derek sits on the Executive Board for the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, is an Ambassador for the Breeders' Cup World Championships and can now add racehorse owner to her resume.
"I am so excited to be a horse owner with MyRacehorse," Derek said, "I've been involved in racing for 20 years and I love the sport, but I've never been an owner or part owner of a horse. So this will be a new experience for me I am very excited about."
The promising son of Pioneerof the Nile was the perfect candidate for Hall of Fame trainer Richard Mandella's California barn, the location and trainer combo is what drew Derek to the horse. Spanning a 20+ year friendship with the well-known trainer, Derek felt this was the perfect first horse to invest in.
Mandella and MyRacehorse have had multiple successes together over the years including the Grade 3 Cougar II Stakes with Tizamagician at Del Mar last summer and 2022 Kentucky Derby hopeful Forbidden Kingdom who secured two graded stakes victories. He looks forward to training for his longtime friend.
"Bo Derek and I met at the Kentucky Derby years ago when I ran Afternoon Deelites. I've known her ever since and we've continued to be friends. It's exciting to welcome her as an owner through MyRacehorse," Mandella shared.
As the first-ever celebrity ambassador for MyRacehorse, Derek will provide exclusive behind-the-scenes content for owners, and share her authentic ownership journey on social platforms and in the media. Derek will also attend in-person events and be available for MyRacehorse's signature 'Live Chats' which are dynamic events hosted regularly for owners that foster 2-way communication while discussing key topics pertaining to their stables.
