Airdrie Stud's Include was euthanized July 18 due to a worsening heart condition according to Bret Jones, vice president of Airdrie Stud. The son of Broad Brush was 25.
The sire of earners of over $52 million, including 11 grade 1 winners, and 30 grade 1 stakes horses worldwide, Include was pensioned from stud duty in 2021 due to the condition. Three foals were reported from his final crop born in 2022.
"He was showing signs of it worsening and we made what we believed was the right decision for Include," Jones told BloodHorse Sept. 5. "He was a wonderful horse. So good to so many people and one of the most beloved horses we’ve ever had on the farm. He’s buried outside our stallion barn."
Robert E. Meyerhoff bred the son of Broad Brush in Maryland out of the Stop the Music mare Illeria and campaigned him through 20 starts with trainer Grover “Bud” Delp to a 10-1-4 record with earnings of $1,659,560. He was named Horse of the Year and champion older male in Maryland in 2001, the year he won the New Orleans Handicap (G2), Pimlico Special Handicap (G1), and Massachusetts Handicap (G2).
Dual grade 1 winner Panty Raid was Include's top performer. Among others are Include Me Out, Sconsin, Include Betty, and Her Smile. He shuttled to Argentina from 2009-13.
