The second session of the Ocala Breeders' Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training kicked off with a bang April 17. It didn't take long for Hip 351, a colt by Bolt d'Oro , to light up the bid board, selling to Three Amigos for $800,000. The colt will be trained by Bob Baffert.

Consigned by Tom McCrocklin, agent, the gray or roan colt is out of the stakes-winning and graded stakes-placed Master Command mare Miss Pippa and is a half brother to stakes winner Paluxy. The colt was a $160,000 acquisition for Champion Equine out of the Taylor Made Sales Agency consignment at last year's Fasig-Tipton July Sale. The colt, bred in Kentucky by Monarch Farms, breezed a quarter-mile in a sparkling :20 3/5 during the under tack preview.

"He is a fast horse," said bloodstock agent Donato Lanni. "He came back from the work in really good shape. He has a good mind to him. He is beautiful and he looks like a racehorse. The sire has done very well. He came out of the breeze really good, and he has kept it all together. The main thing is that Bob (Baffert) loved him, and that's key. Bob liked him a lot."

McCrocklin said of the precocious colt, "He had a beautiful breeze. Visually, he had as pretty a breeze as there was in the sale. He caught the eye of a lot of good horsemen. Buyers are looking for good colts that can get them to the promised land, and he has everything. He has a great mind. He came up here and fell asleep. He acted like he didn't even notice we moved him to the sale ring."

Three Amigos purchased the session topper from the first session of the Spring Sale April 16, extending to $775,000 for Hip 199, a filly from the first crop of the Uncle Mo  stallion Caracaro .
