The Inglis Gold Yearling Sale at Melbourne's Oaklands Junction April 20 will give buyers another opportunity to secure yearlings at one of Australia's most economical auctions.

A total of 107 lots have been cataloged, with Inglis confident that despite a drop in numbers from 191 entered last year, the auction will again live up to its reputation for unearthing bargain-basement talent.

Recent group 1 winners Lunar Fox, Savatoxl, Malaguerra, and Media Award are Gold graduates bought for a combined AU$85,000, with the first three of those earning more than AU$1 million on the track.

Inglis Gold, which typically averages around AU$15,000, has also hatched Papillon Club, the 4-year-old mare who cost AU$70,000 and is now a group 3 winner who's earned more than AU$400,000 so far.

As with all Inglis yearling sales, all lots are eligible for the AU$12.55 million Inglis Race Series which includes the Inglis Millennium, the AU$1 million Inglis Sprint, the AU$5 million Inglis Xtra Bonus, and the AU$1 million Inglis Pink Bonus female ownership incentive.

Graduates are also eligible for the popular AU$200,000 Inglis Challenge, run over 1,100 meters (about 5 1/2 furlongs) for 2-year-olds on Scone Cup Day.

"It's a sale that historically has been more than capable of producing a good horse," said Inglis's CEO of bloodstock sales Sebastian Hutch.

"For people who are in the market for stock at value prices it's a sale, along with HTBA sale at Riverside next Sunday, that will present them with a good opportunity."

Hutch said Inglis had heard "a good number of buyers" express interest in participating at the sale.

"It's a smaller catalog than we would like ideally, but at the same time we recognize it's an important service to provide to Victorian breeders and vendors to have this sale," he said.

The sale, representing stallions including Blue Diamond Stakes (G1) winner Hayasugi's sire Royal Meeting, plus Zoustar, Tassort, Blue Point, Churchill, Street Boss, and Shamus Award, is scheduled to begin at midday Saturday.

Inglis Gold averaged AU$14,681 last year from 133 lots sold from 191 cataloged at a clearance rate of 77%, with a high of AU$200,000 for a Blue Point colt—AU$120,000 more than the second-top lot.

The 2022 average was AU$19,822 with a peak of AU$150,000, with 178 lots sold from a catalog of 232 at 84% clearance.
