Oaklawn Park confirmed May 2 in a post on X that Tyler's Tribe has died.

In its post the track noted, "The health and welfare of our equine and human athletes are taken very seriously at Oaklawn. While management investigates the unfortunate fatalities of Tyler's Tribe and Collins, trainer Tim Martin's entries during the last weekend of racing have been scratched by the stewards. In the interest of all parties, Oaklawn must take these actions to properly investigate this matter."

Calls to Martin and Tom Lepic, who co-owned the gelding, were not returned.

Details surrounding the 4-year-old's death are unknown, but he has had a history of bleeding. He last worked May 1 at Oaklawn going four furlongs in :48 4/5.

The first known bleeding event occurred in the 2022 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1T), in which the Equibase chart notes the Iowa-bred son of Sharp Azteca was "found to have bled." Then, a month later in the Advent Stakes at Oaklawn Park, he had bled again.

"It wasn't nothing like the Breeders' Cup," Martin said following the race. "He was looking pretty good, and whenever he stopped, I was like, 'Uh oh,' something happened.' When (jockey Kylee Jordan) pulled him up, he had blood in his nose."

Tyler's Tribe had run his first five career races on Lasix, but was not permitted to do so in the Breeders' Cup. He received Lasix for the Advent.

Then, two races later in the Bachelor Stakes, Tyler's Tribe was a DNF with the chart noting he "returned bleeding."

Tyler's Tribe was bred by Clifton Farm and Derek Merkler. He was 5-0-1 from 10 starts with $327,661 in earnings.

The details about Collins' death are also unknown other than he breezed at Oaklawn the morning of May 2, going five furlongs in 1:01 3/5. He was a 3-year-old Into Mischief  gelding with six starts to his name but had yet to find the winner's circle. He last ran Jan. 26 at Turfway Park in a maiden special weight.

He was owned by 2moede4u Holdings and trained by Rey Hernandez.
