The first four finishers in the listed Angels Flight Stakes April 7 tackle graded company at Santa Anita Park May 5 in the Senorita Stakes (G3T). Both stakes pit 3-year-old fillies against each other down Santa Anita's hillside turf course of about 6 1/2 furlongs.
Phil D'Amato-trained Laulne defeated Richard Mandella-trained Alluring by a nose in the Angels Flight. A group winner in her native France, Laulne came to the United States for last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1T), but finished 10th after having to steady early. Prior to the Angels Flight, Alluring broke her maiden in her second start and finished third in the Feb. 11 Sweet Life Stakes, but was disqualified to 10th for interference.
Girl of My Dreams and Antifona ran third and fourth, respectively, in the Angels Flight. Trained by Doug O'Neill, Girl of My Dreams needed six starts to break her maiden and then ran unplaced in two stakes prior to the Angels Flight. Antifona, now trained by John Sadler after beginning her career in her native France, this year won the Sweet Life Stakes and ran third in the March 10 China Doll Stakes before the Angels Flight.
Of the four other Senorita entrants, Flattery is a 2023 stakes winner, Visually ran fourth and was moved to third in the Sweet Life, Shamrockin is two for three and making her stakes debut, and Rascality (also trained by Mandella) is coming off a maiden win in her third start.
