Trainer Bob Baffert confirmed the morning of Aug. 30 that Adare Manor will not run in the Aug. 31 Pacific Classic Stakes (G1) at Del Mar.
"She tied up a little after her gallop yesterday and was still a little tight this morning," Baffert texted. "I don't feel she's 100%. She can't be off her game even a little bit tomorrow, so we're going to sit this one out."
Baffert had entered Adare Manor to run against males for the first time. It would also have been the 5-year-old mare's first effort at the Pacific Classic distance of 1 1/4 miles. In against eight male rivals, Adare Manor was listed as the 9-5 morning-line favorite. She could have become only the second female to win the Pacific Classic, following champion Beholder in 2015.
After finishing second by three-quarters of a length to Sweet Azteca in the March 9 Beholder Mile Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita Park, Adare Manor has been brilliant. Shipped to Oaklawn Park, she romped in the April 13 Apple Blossom Handicap (G1) by 5 1/2 lengths. Back home at Santa Anita, she crushed foes in the May 26 Santa Margarita Stakes (G2) by 4 1/4 lengths and then at Del Mar won the Clement L. Hirsch Stakes (G1) by 2 3/4 lengths Aug. 3.
Michael Lund Petersen owns Adare Manor, a daughter of Uncle Mo—Brooklynsway, by Giant Gizmo. Town & Country Horse Farms and Gary Broad bred her in Kentucky. Adare Manor has won 10 of 18 lifetime starts and has earnings of $2,096,600.
