Darley Stallions' Nyquist  was represented by his second seven-figure yearling in the closing hour of Day 4 for the Keeneland September Yearling Sale, with John Stewart's Resolute Bloodstock going to $1.2 million for the colt (Hip 1114) sold by Indian Creek as agent.

County Line Farm bred the colt in Kentucky out of the Candy Ride  daughter Candy Swap, who is a full sister to 2010 Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner Sidney's Candy and grade 3 winner Sweet Swap.

She is the dam of five foals, one to race—stakes winner Bluegrass Parkway (Quality Road ).

“This is a horse we’ve loved for a really long time. He’s always been so nice, and it seemed like he was very well received,” said Sarah Sutherland of Indian Creek.

“But, you just don’t know. It takes people that are going to be spirited bidding, and they have to fight for a horse like this. And when they do, you can have amazing results. It definitely exceeded our expectations, but I will never complain about that,” she continued.

“I like the way that his (Nyquist) horses have ran. I think there is nothing but upside there. Then the physical of the horse, it was our top colt of the day. I was joking around that I was waiting for that horse for four hours, and there was no way I wasn’t buying it. Whoever I was bidding against on the phone, I was just watching, thinking, ‘I’m going, keep going. Let’s go,’” Stewart said.

Nyquist had the top two priced yearlings on the second day of Book 2. He was also the sire of Hip 984, a colt out of the Bernardini mare Spa Treatment. He sold for $1.3 million to China Horse Club, Maverick Racing, and Siena Farm.

Nyquist has seen success in the sales ring and on the track this year, with several grade 1 winners including Immersive, who won the Spinaway Stakes (G1); undefeated Tenma, winner of the Del Mar Debutante Stakes (G1); Randomized, winner of the Ogden Phipps Stakes (G1); and Johannes, winner of the Shoemaker Mile Stakes (G1T).

“The stallion speaks for himself; he can do no wrong right now. He’s (Hip 1114) got a really nice pedigree, classic distance type of horse, and I think he’s one that is not even close to as his best right now. He’s a beautiful mover, it’ll be really fun to watch him and follow along,” said Sutherland.

When asked what stood out about Hip 1114 she said: “His movement and his energy. He’s just one of those horses that really shows that he wants to do it. I think he’s going to want to train and move forward in everything that he does. He never got tired, he’s a very feel-good type of colt. He didn’t let us down at all."
