The second and final session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales October Yearling Sale concluded Oct. 8, with no effects from Hurricane Milton. The sale had been scheduled to run Tuesday and Wednesday but was moved up a day because of the impending storm.

A daughter of Complexity  topped both the session and the entire sale, selling for $150,000 to Top Line Sales, agent, and was consigned by Thoroughstock, agent. The dark bay or brown filly was bred in Florida by Norman Dellheim and Katie Liebe. She is out of the Airdrie Stud-bred mare Silver Lantana.

"This is my first time selling a horse like this," Liebe said. "I'm from the hunter/jumper world and this is my first homebred, the first one where I had the mare and everything. I just think she has flawless conformation, and her dam line is really hot right now, as well as Complexity, so it was just the perfect match. She does look the part, she's a very classy filly. She's like a puppy dog. Even my 4- and 6-year-old could lead her around. We're very happy."

"She was our pick for the whole sale," said Torie Gladwell of Top Line Sales. "She was our favorite individual: early, fast, sound for a pinhook. We bought her for a partnership, so some of our partners are really excited about buying into her. It will probably be March (that she'll sell) if she's early enough, maybe April. That's where she'll probably end up."

Hip 459 is by first-crop sire Complexity, who is already the sire of 17 winners, with three black-type winners, including Black Forza, Mo Plex, and Mensa. Complexity stood the 2024 season at Airdrie Stud for an advertised fee of $12,500.

The highest-priced colt of the session was Hip 385, a Florida-bred by Win Win Win  who commanded $135,000 from No Money No Honey, agent. He was consigned by Kaizen Sales (Richard Kent), agent, and is out of the stakes-winning mare Prize Informant

"He was just a very athletic individual," Richard Kent said. "His 3-year-old half brother Jasper Robusto is running extremely well in Japan right now and running in a stakes race on the weekend. But it was the individual that sold. He is very well balanced for a big colt and people liked his athletic look."

Three horses brought $100,000—Hip 280, Boujify, a daughter of Triple Crown winner Justify , and Hip 462, a filly by Vekoma , were both bought by D.J. Stable. Hip 448, a colt by Girvin, whose dam, She Can't Help It, is a half sister to multiple graded stakes winner and millionaire World of Trouble , sold to Golf 24/25 from the Darsan, Inc. consignment.

One hundred eighty-seven head sold during the second session for a total of $4,050,200. The average was $21,659 and the median $13,000.

The entire sale grossed $5,804,100 from 291 horses sold, below last year's gross of $7,670,000 from 384 head. The average was $19,945 with a median of $12,000. One hundred seventy-five horses failed to meet their reserve, resulting in an RNA rate of 37.6%.

Abbie Road Farm led the consignors with a total of 30 yearlings sold for $841,600. D.J. Stable was the leading buyer with four purchases grossing $355,000. K.O.I.D. was very active, securing 10 head for a total of $218,000.
