Bright Future , winner of the 2023 Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes (G1) at Saratoga Race Course, has been retired to Claiborne Farm to enter stud in 2025. He will stand for an advertised fee of $12,500 during his debut season.

The 5-year-old chestnut son of Curlin won five of 11 starts and  $947,940 for owners Repole Stable and St. Elias Stables and Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher. In addition to the 2023 Jockey Club Gold Cup, his other black-type victory came in the Salvator Mile Stakes (G3) this summer at Monmouth Park. He finished unplaced in his final two starts that followed that performance when eighth in the Whitney Stakes (G1) and sixth in this year's Jockey Club Gold Cup, both at Saratoga.

Bright Future's sire, Hall of Famer Curlin, won the 1 1/4-mile Jockey Club Gold Cup twice, in 2007-08. Curlin is establishing himself as a prolific sire-of-sires, already represented by two classic-siring sons in Good Magic  and Keen Ice

"Bright Future displayed a great amount of talent and heart during his time in my barn," Pletcher said. "He was a tough, hard-knocking colt that had speed he could carry around two turns. Being a son of Curlin and with his pedigree, Bright Future is surely to have that as a stallion at Claiborne."

Bred in Kentucky by Clearsky Farms, Bright Future is out of the stakes-winning Bellamy Road mare Sophia's Song, making him a half brother to grade 2 winner Musical Mischief. Bright Future's extended family includes two-time champion sprinter Housebuster, 2023 Hopeful Stakes (G1) winner Nutella Fella, and grade 2 winner Quero Quero.

Bright Future will be syndicated. Owners Mike Repole of Repole Stable and Vincent Viola of St. Elias Stables are retaining an interest in the horse at stud.

"This is a special moment for me," said bloodstock agent Jacob West, who recently joined Claiborne as its stallion seasons and bloodstock manager. "Now that I'm working at Claiborne, it feels like things have come full circle. I was part of the team that purchased Bright Future as a yearling, so I followed his career with great interest. Now it's exciting to see him coming to Claiborne to stand as part of our growing stallion roster."

Bright Future, a $350,000 purchase from his breeder's consignment to the 2020 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, is currently available for inspection at Claiborne Farm.
