The catalog for the Hidaka Horse Breeders' Association Training Sale at Sapporo Racecourse May 20 contains 103 juveniles, 13 more than last year's catalog.
Hip 7 is among the features in the catalog, a colt by Shadai Stallion Station's first-crop sire Contrail, who entered stud in 2022. He is by Deep Impact, the 2020 Japanese Triple Crown winner, and was bred by Koji Maeda's North Hills and is owned by Maeda's brother, Shinji. Hip 7 is from Ken and Brains Co. and is out of Teorema, who won seven races including three listed stakes.
Contrail's first foals made a big splash at the Japan Racing Horse Association Select Sale in 2023. Two of his colts received the first and third-highest prices in the foal session. His colt out of Conviction topped the foal session at ¥520 million (approx. US$3,636,364 at the time of the sale) while his colt out of Bye Bye Baby was sold for ¥330 million (approx. US$2,307,693).
In 2024, 61 lots were sold at the HBA Training Sale for a total of ¥423.4 million. The average price was ¥6,940,984 (approx. US$44,073), and the median was ¥5.7 million (approx. US$36,193).
