Dr. Connie Brown, an equine veterinarian who also bred a number of winning Thoroughbreds, died May 15. She was 71.
Born July 22, 1953, to the late Coney and Jewel Cornett, Brown was raised in Greenville, Ohio, where her lifelong love of animals was sparked. She graduated from The Ohio State University with her veterinary degree and spent her career in private practice.
Brown, often in partnership either with husband Bruce or others, is the breeder of a number of winning horses, including 2020 Astra Stakes (G3T) winner Ms Pientour and 2024 Jamaican Horse of the Year Funcaandun.
"She was a successful and hardworking horsewoman through her final days, but her most cherished roles were those of devoted mother and grandmother," her family obituary noted. "Known for her smile, selflessness and positive nature, she was the heart and soul of her close knit family and the shining light at every gathering."
In addition to her husband of 46 years, Connie is survived by her children, Holly Powell (Travis), Nicholasville, Heather Johnson (Patrick), Nicholasville, and Sarah Brown, Versailles; her sister, Carolyn Luft, Versailles; her brother, Bill Cornett (Nadine), Fla; and four grandchildren.
