He was recently penalized in court after pleading guilty to drunk driving.

Jockey Oisin Murphy is to have "incredibly strict" conditions placed on his license, acting British Horseracing Authority chief executive Brant Dunshea revealed July 10.

Dunshea said the governing body was working through the process of agreeing conditions attached to Murphy's license in the wake of his court appearance last week. Murphy was fined £70,000 and banned from driving for 20 months after pleading guilty to driving over the limit for alcohol.

The four-time champion jockey said there was "no excuse for what I did" in a statement released after the hearing at Reading Magistrates' Court July 3. Details released in the case revealed that Murphy had a single-vehicle accident in April when the car he was driving left the road and collided with a tree.

Dunshea, speaking to Ed Chamberlin during ITV's July meeting coverage Thursday, said: "As a consequence of very heavy engagement between Oisin and our team, we're going through a process of agreeing to a set of incredibly strict conditions. This will include enhanced testing, both on the racecourse and away from the racecourse.

"The BHA was not given access to the information in relation to the criminal proceedings until we learned the full details in court. We have to understand and appreciate that these matters are not within our jurisdiction and so the information we were dealing with was limited.

"We're working to come up with a set of conditions that not only ensures we're protecting the integrity and reputation of British racing and the safety of our horses and people, but also that we're doing it in a way that ensures that Oisin gets the support and help that he might need to deal with his issues."

Dunshea said that matters around licensing "are personal in nature" and remain a private process, but added Murphy's actions were "below the standard that we would expect".

Murphy led the jockeys' championship by 20 winners from Rossa Ryan before the start of racing on Thursday, though he has not added to his tally since the court case.
