Blackberry Jam became the first black-type stakes winner for Rise Up when the 2-year-old gelding won the King County Express Stakes on the July 20 card at Emerald Downs. Owned and trained by Dr. Ryland Harwood, Blackberry Jam went to the lead rounding the turn and won the 5 1/2-furlong dash by 1 3/4 lengths in a final time of 1:03 2/5.

A Ryland Harwood and Jo Ann Harwood homebred from Washington, Blackberry Jam was making his second career start after finishing second in his debut June 22. The Harwoods also own two of the gelding's siblings.

Rise Up, a son of Rockport Harbor, won six stakes, including a wire-to-wire romp in the $1 million Delta Downs Jackpot Stakes (G3) and placed in four black-type events. He retired with a record of 12-12-5 from 49 starts for earnings of $1,232,136.

Rise Up stood the 2025 season at Ruah Ranch near Sublimity, Ore., for a $2,000 fee.

He has three crops on the track. The sire had two winners from three runners among his first crop and one winner from four runners last year. Rise Up has had nine runners this year with Blackberry Jam the lone winner.

Blackberry Jam is out of the Isla Vista mare Vistarella, who won 12 times from 40 starts.
