Old Friends at Cabin Creek announced July 27 the arrival of dual grade 1-winning New York-bred Diversify, who relocates to New York after initially retiring to Old Friends' Dream Chase Farm in Georgetown, Ky. upon his retirement from racing in 2019.
"We are thrilled to welcome Diversify back home to New York," said JoAnn Pepper, manager of Old Friends at Cabin Creek. "We are looking forward to him settling in and greeting visitors."
The 12-year-old Bellamy Road gelding arrived at Old Friends at Cabin Creek July 27. His arrival comes a few short weeks after the loss of dual grade 1 Whitney-winning New York-bred Commentator, whose namesake race was won by Diversify in 2018.
Fittingly, Diversify would go on to win a Whitney of his own that summer at Saratoga Race Course, adding to previous graded success in the 2018 Suburban Stakes (G2) and the 2017 Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1), both at Belmont Park.
Diversify was trained by the late Rick Violette, a pioneer in Thoroughbred aftercare who served as president of the New York Thoroughbred Horsemen's Association and was instrumental in the creation of the TAKE2 Second Career Thoroughbred Program and TAKE THE LEAD Retirement Program. Violette was also a founding member of the Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance, which Old Friends at Cabin Creek has been proudly accredited by for more than a decade.
Diversify arrived at Dream Chase Farm in the summer of 2019 thanks to owners Ralph and Lauren Evans, and he retired as the final grade 1-winner for the venerable Violette. Old Friends thanks the Evanses for their care and trust.
Fans are welcome to visit Diversify July 29 to officially welcome him to the herd. Tours of Old Friends at Cabin Creek are also offered on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. through Aug. 30. No reservations are required.
