Following a third consecutive graded stakes victory, coming in the July 26 Jim Dandy Stakes (G2) at Saratoga Race Course, 3-year-old Sovereignty has supplanted 4-year-old Mindframe in the latest National Thoroughbred Racing Association Top Thoroughbred Poll.
Sovereignty, the Kentucky Derby (G1) and Belmont Stakes (G1) winner, is 4-1-0 in five starts this year for Godolphin and Hall of Fame trainer Bill Mott. He had trailed only Mindframe in last week's poll. Following his Jim Dandy win in the poll released July 29, he captured 17 first-place votes, compared with nine for Mindframe, who is 3-for-3 this year for Hall of Fame trainer Todd Pletcher and owners Repole Stable and St Elias Stable.
Reigning Horse of the Year Thorpedo Anna also received one first-place vote, as did the recently retired Raging Torrent, though they are fifth and ninth overall.
The NTRA Top Thoroughbred Poll, voting for which is conducted by national media, represents horses competing for Horse of the Year. The Top Thoroughbred Poll concludes Nov. 4, a few days after the two-day Breeders' Cup this fall at Del Mar.
Also on the rise this week was Nysos after his victory in the San Diego Handicap (G2) at Del Mar. Previously 11th, he climbed to sixth in winning his second consecutive graded stakes race of 2025. His only loss this year was a second-place finish to Mindframe when returning from a 15-month layoff in the May 3 Churchill Downs Stakes (G1).
