Jasmina became the first black-type winner for California freshman sire Listing when the filly was elevated to first in the Aug. 3 California Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Stakes at Del Mar.
Jasmina came into the CTBA Stakes off a five-length maiden win at Los Alamitos Race Course for trainer Simon Callaghan. At the start, second-choice Jasmina broke inward slightly from while My Love Caroline broke out, squeezing favored Liberation back. My Love Caroline and Jasmina sat off pacesetting Mustang Knicky, and passed that tiring rival at the top of the stretch.
My Love Caroline and Jasmina battled the length of the stretch, with My Love Caroline crossing the wire a nose in front in :59.02 for the five furlongs on the fast main track. However, there was a stewards' inquiry into the start involving Jasmina, My Love Caroline, and Liberation, who finished fourth. The stewards disqualified My Love Caroline from first to fourth for breaking out and causing Liberation to clip heels.
Bred in California by Reddam Racing, Jasmina is boasts Reddam homebreds on both sides of her pedigree. Out of homebred Charred Rare, who is by Reddam-raced Momentum, the 2-year-old filly is by Listing, a Reddam homebred by Square Eddie.
Trained by Ben Cecil, Listing debuted a winner in the 2018 I'm Smokin Stakes at Del Mar as a juvenile. At 3, he earned victories in the Quick Call (G3T), California Cup Turf Sprint, and Desert Code stakes. Retired with a 4-1-1 record in nine starts and $280,400 in earnings, Listing entered stud at Reddam's Ocean Breeze Ranch, where he stood the 2025 season for $2,000. Through Aug. 3, Listing leads all California freshman sires with $124,690 in progeny earnings.
