Baoma Corp's Himika, the talk of the town following an impressive debut score, has the chance to back up that performance when she tries stakes company for the first time in the Aug. 10 $150,000 Sorrento Stakes (G3) at Del Mar.
Himika's dominating six-length maiden win June 12 at Santa Anita Park validated the potential she showed at the Ocala Breeders' Sale Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds in Training under tack show, where the Curlin filly zipped a :09 4/5 eighth-mile on her way to a $900,000 price tag.

While Baoma's Charles and Susan Chu have campaigned a number of top-class juvenile fillies over the years, including 2024 Del Mar Debutante (G1) winner Tenma, the couple has never won the Sorrento. Meanwhile, Himika's trainer Bob Baffert has captured the race eight times. The Hall of Fame conditioner won last year's edition with Zedan Racing Stable's Nooni, $1.8-million OBS 2-year-old sale purchase.
Juan Hernandez keeps the mount on Himika, and the pair will break from the one hole in the field of six.
Dreaming of Alys, potentially Himika's biggest competition on Sunday, was purchased for $45,000 at the 2024 Keeneland September Yearling Sale. Previously trained by Gary Capuano, the daughter of Upstart won by 4 3/4 lengths in her unveiling June 13 at Laurel Park. After her debut, the filly was transferred to the barn of Phil D'Amato, a two-time Sorrento winner.
