The Hokkaido Summer Sale, the largest yearling sale in Japan kicks off Aug.18 at Shizunai with 1,456 yearlings on offer during the six day sale.
Leading sires such as Kizuna, Nadal, Real Steel, and Lord Kanaloa, are represented in the sale. In addition to the proven sires, 15 yearlings by first-crop sire Hot Rod Charlie, who entered stud in 2023 at Shadai Stallion Station are cataloged; and 27 first Japanese crop yearlings by Will Take Charge, who was moved to Darley Japan in 2023, are included in the catalog.
A few highlight offerings include:
• Hip 678, a colt by first-crop sire and 2021 Dubai World Cup (G1) winner Mystic Guide , consigned by CS Stable. Mystic Guide started his stud duties at Darley America in 2023, and stood the 2025 season for an advertised fee of $7,500. The colt is a half brother to Little Poison, who ran third in the 2024 Debutante Stakes.
• Hip 1044, a colt by California Chrome , consigned by Z Stable. She is a full sister to Komorebino Omoide, who has won six races in the United States, including the Steve Sexton Mile (G3) at Lone Star Park May 26.
• Hip 404, a filly by Le Vent Se Leve, consigned by Grand Stud. The filly is a half sister to Natural Rise, who won the Haneda Hai (G1) at Oi April 29 and the Tokyo Derby (G1) June11— the first and second legs of the Japanese Dirt Triple Crown for 3-year-olds.
