Quadruple group 1 winner Porta Fortuna is set to be one of the stars of the glittering fourth edition of the Sceptre Session at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale held Dec. 1-4, with the announcement last year's European champion 3-year-old filly will be offered for sale at Park Paddocks.
Trained by Donnacha O'Brien for a partnership of owners that includes leading United States stallion farm and breeders Taylor Made through their Medallion Racing, the Cheveley Park Stakes (G1), Coronation Stakes (G1), Falmouth Stakes (G1), and Matron Stakes (G1) winner is being sold under the terms of her ownership agreement and will be consigned by Taylor Made's Sales Agency.
Philip Shelton, racing manager for Medallion, said: "Our plan was always to sell at the end of her 4-year-old year, and we felt that Tattersalls was the perfect place to showcase a once-in-a-lifetime filly for our partners."
Successful at Royal Ascot as a 2-year-old, the daughter of Caravaggio ended her juvenile season with victory in the Cheveley Park Stakes which was her breakthrough at the highest level.
"Porta Fortuna has given our Medallion partners, along with Steve (Weston), Dean (Woods) and Barry (Fowler), memories to last a lifetime. We all feel incredibly lucky to have been a part of her journey," Shelton added.
"She hit new heights as a 3-year-old winning three consecutive group 1s after a narrow defeat in the One Thousand Guineas, culminating in being named Cartier champion 3-year-old filly. Full credit must go to Donnacha O'Brien and his team at Bawnmore Racing, who have campaigned her brilliantly."
Runner-up behind Elmalka in the One Thousand Guineas (G1), Porta Fortuna won her only start this year in the Lanwades Stud Stakes (G2) at the Curragh and has compiled an impressive record as the winner of eight of her 13 career starts. She finished outside the top three just once in her career, and that was in last year's Breeders' Cup Mile (G1T) at Del Mar in which she was eighth.
Porta Fortuna was bred by Annemarie and Aidan O'Brien's Whisperview Trading and is the first foal out of Too Precious, a winning Holy Roman Emperor sister to triple Australian group 2 winner Numerian.
Edmond Mahony, Tattersalls chairman, expressed his delight at the inclusion of Porta Fortuna in the Sceptre Sessions, which will be held Dec. 1-2.
"Porta Fortuna is a true champion and a rare jewel. In the history of the Cartier Awards, never has the winner of the champion 3-year-old filly title been offered for sale as a filly in training until Porta Fortuna, and to be offering such an outstanding Champion at Tattersalls on behalf of her owners Medallion Racing, Steve Weston, Dean Reeves and Barry Fowler is an absolute privilege."
He added: "Porta Fortuna possesses all of the attributes one looks for in the Thoroughbred and her sale promises not only to be the highlight of the Sceptre Sessions at the Tattersalls December Mares Sale, but also one of the most eagerly anticipated events of the 2025 global bloodstock sales calendar."
