Shares in leading young stallions Ole Kirk and Southport Tycoon, both by Written Tycoon, dominated bidding in the Inglis Digital September (Early) Online Sale, finishing as the two highest-priced lots when the sale closed Sept. 10.
The Ole Kirk share topped the sale, selling to Eric Yeung for AU$600,000 (US$397,086, AU$1=US$0.66). The 1% share result saw Ole Kirk valued at an astonishing AU$60 million.
Yeung also purchased the share in Southport Tycoon, for which he paid AU$180,000.
Adam White of Vinery Stud—which offered the Ole Kirk share on behalf of a client—was delighted with the outcome.
"I was surprised with the price to be fair. It's a lot of money," White said. "But, I guess you can't get into the horse, this is the only way to get in, and he's obviously started the new season very well with a run of winners heading into the spring, so it's great to be able to welcome a new investor into him today.''
The next top lots in the sale were shared at AU$135,000—Cannon Hayes Stud bought the broodmare Nags To Riches, by Written Tycoon, and Darby Racing purchased the 5-year-old racemare Catahoula, by Shalaa.
Cannon Hayes' Dave Morrissey said Nags To Riches would visit young Coolmore stallion Home Affairs this season.
"You're always hoping to get them for less but she's worth what she's worth I suppose,'' Morrissey said. "I think Home Affairs is a great match for her.''
In total the September (Early) Sale grossed AU$3,376,950 (US$2,228,787).
