Ten Broeck Farm's Slack Tide became the first black-type winner for freshman sire Shaman Ghost  when she rolled to a three-length victory in the July 18 Angie C. Stakes at Emerald Downs.

After finishing second in her June 30 debut, Slack Tide went to post at odds of 7-1 in the field of six for the Angie C. The 2-year-old broke on top and sparred for the early lead through splits of :22.04 and :45.83 before establishing command at the top of the lane and drawing away.

Slack Tide, trained by Blaine Wright and ridden by Heribert Martinez, ran the 5 1/2 furlongs on a fast track in 1:04.94.

Bred in Kentucky by Mr. and Mrs. William Griffin, Slack Tide sold for $25,000 as a yearling out of Griffin Place's consignment at the 2020 Washington Thoroughbred Breeders' Association Yearling and Mixed Sale. She is out of the stakes-placed Northern Afleet mare Impeached.

Shaman Ghost was a multiple grade 1 winner and Canadian classic winner on the track for Stronach Stables. The biggest wins of his career came in the Woodward Stakes (G1), Santa Anita Handicap Presented by San Manuel Indian Bingo and Casino (G1), and the Queen's Plate. He earned $3,859,311 and retired with a record of 8-3-2 from 17 starts.

The son of Ghostzapper has gotten off to a fast start at stud, siring four winners from 20 starters to date.

Shaman Ghost stands at Adena Springs North in Ontario for CA$7,500.
