Fox Sports handicapper Jonathon Kinchen hit the barns this week alongside bloodstock agent Maddie Mattmiller looking for a few individuals to add to a partnership for the summer program in New York. On May 24, the second day of the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale, they found a stunning daughter of Malibu Moon, Hip 487, from Ciaran Dunne's Wavertree Stables for $500,000.

"I've known Maddie and Jake (Ballis) for a long time, and when I decided I wanted to do this, I wanted her guidance," Kinchen said. "We are excited about the partnership. This filly will likely go to trainer George Weaver in New York so we can keep an eye on her all summer while we are at Saratoga."

Bred in Kentucky by Machmer Hall and consigned to the Keeneland September Sale with her breeder, Dunne picked up the pinhook for $110,000. Last week she turned in a time of :10 2/5 over an eighth of a mile during the under tack preview.

Maddie Mattmiller said: "We love fillies and have had good luck with gray fillies off of Ciaran Dunne—Up in Smoke, a stakes winner sourced from the 2019 Midlantic Sale for $230,000, and Wish You Well, a $550,000 graduate from the 2021 Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Sale. Ciaran has always given us good advice when we come over and find what we like."

The gray out of Lorelei True, by Unbridled's Song, a winner on the turf at 5 for Millennium Farms, is a half sister to San Vicente Stakes (G2) winner Sparky Ville, by Candy Ride . The juvenile filly has a Vino Rosso  yearling half sister and a 2022 half brother by Gun Runner .

"As far as this filly, she was a big and pretty filly with a ton of leg under her; looks like she will go two turns and carried herself well," Mattmiller said. "She has a good pedigree behind her; being out of an Unbridled Song mare doesn't hurt."

Kinchen and Black Type Thoroughbreds' partnership picked up a Maryland-bred Mosler colt, Hip 454, earlier in the day for $165,000 from Grassroots Training & Sales.

"Yesterday, we got shut out on two that we thought we had a good chance of getting. It seemed like yesterday the RNA rate maybe was a bit higher, and today people are ready to buy," Mattmiller said. "The market seems strong, even with the stock market going down. It's great for the sport and great for the business."
