McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds' freshman sire Redesdale had his first winner July 26 when his son N Y Riesling won his second career start by 1 1/2 lengths at Finger Lakes.

The New York-bred colt won in near gate-to-wire fashion going five furlongs on the dirt for owners Hector Alejandro and Linda Dixon, who is also the trainer. The final time was 1:00.43.

Hidden Lake Farm bred N Y Riesling out of the A.P. Indy winner El Coyote, who is a daughter of grade 1-placed, multiple graded stakes winner Country Hideaway (Seeking the Gold). El Coyote is a full sister to grade 1-placed, grade 2 winner Boca Grande and a half sister to grade 3 winner Vacation (Dynaformer). The mare also has a yearling Solomini  filly.

Redesdale is a 9-year-old son of Speightstown bred by Juddmonte Farms out of grade 3 winner Harpia, a full sister to leading international sire Danehill and graded stakes winners Eagle Eyed and Shibboleth and a half to graded-placed stakes winner Euphonic.

Chad Schumer and trainer Brendan Walsh bought Redesdale for $18,000 at the 2016 Keeneland January Horses of All Ages Sale, seeing him already as a stallion prospect. The horse ended up with an abbreviated racing career with three wins from four starts.

Redesdale, who is syndicated, entered stud at McMahon of Saratoga and stood this year for $2,500.
