Americanrevolution , a son of Constitution , was named the 2021 New York-bred Horse of the Year and champion 3-year-old male Aug. 12 at the New York Thoroughbred Breeders' annual awards ceremony at Fasig-Tipton's Humphrey S. Finney Sales Pavilion in Saratoga Springs. Todd Pletcher trains the colt, who was bred by Fred Hertrich and John Fielding and is owned by CHC and WinStar Farm.
American Revolution won five of his six starts last year while earning $941,750. After breaking his maiden first time out in June, his biggest win came against open company in the Cigar Mile Handicap Presented by NYRA Bets (G1) Dec. 4 at Aqueduct Racetrack. He also won the Empire Classic Handicap at Belmont Park and ran third in the Pennsylvania Derby (G1) at Parx.
The other divisional champions were Venti Valentine(2-year-old filly); Senbei(2-year-old male); Make Mischief(3-year-old filly); Bank Sting(older dirt female and female sprinter); Bankit(older dirt male); Runaway Rumour(turf female); Somelikeithotbrown (turf male),and My Boy Tate(male sprinter).
Polly Freeze, the dam of Americanrevolution, was New York broodmare of the year. Her sire is Super Saver and she is out of Elusive Gold, by Strike the Gold.
Also honored were Christophe Clement (trainer), Manuel Franco (jockey), and Chester and Mary Broman (breeders).
The winners were chosen by a vote of New York turf writers, handicappers, photographers, and television and radio hosts, and analysts that was conducted by the NYTB.
