Longtime assistant trainer Toby Sheets, who was in charge of Steve Asmussen's Belmont Park division, died from drowning, according to Greek coroner Ioannis Aivatidis.

The coroner in Corfu, Greece, who performed the autopsy, told ABC News of his findings June 18. ABC also reported that the United States Embassy in Greece was working to facilitate the transfer of Sheets' body back to the U.S.

Sheets, 55, is a native of Hot Springs, Ark. He was on vacation in Greece when he was found dead June 16 on a rocky and fairly remote beach on the Greek island of Mathraki.

Sheets had been reported missing since June 13. He had last been seen June 11 at a café with two female tourists who later left the island. A friend contacted police after finding his home with the front door open, lights and air conditioning on, but no trace of Sheets or his ID or travel documents, according to The Independent.

Another tourist discovered Sheets' body on a beach near Mathraki's old port.
