Multiple leading North American sire Tapit continues leading the stallion roster at Gainesway in Lexington with his 2025 fee held at $185,000, the farm announced Oct. 31.
Tapit, a son of Pulpit and North America's all-time leading sire by progeny earnings and leading active sire by lifetime grade 1 winners and graded stakes winners, is in the midst of another excellent season on the racetrack, led by Whitney Stakes (G1) winner Arthur's Ride, Woodward Stakes (G2) winner Tapit Trice , and additional graded winners May Day Ready, Scylla, and Batten Down. He continues to be in demand in the auction ring, led by a trio of seven-figure horses this season.
McKinzie has emerged as a leader among North America's freshman sire class. The son of Street Sense is led by a pair of grade 1 winners from his debut crop of runners: Chancer McPatrick, winner of the Hopeful Stakes (G1) and Champagne Stakes (G1), and Scottish Lassie, winner of the Frizette Stakes (G1). He is the first stallion since Mr. Prospector to sire the winners of the Champagne and Frizette in the same year. A stud fee for McKinzie will be set following the Breeders' Cup World Championships.
New to the Gainesway roster are a pair of grade 1 winners who will be participating in the Nov. 2 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1)—Muth and Seize the Grey. Stud fees for both will be announced at the end of their racing careers.
At 2, Muth won the 2023 American Pharoah Stakes (G1) before running second in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile (G1). At 3, Muth won the San Vicente Stakes (G2) before prevailing in the Arkansas Derby (G1), defeating future Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Mystik Dan. Muth is the only son of Good Magic to become a grade 1 winner at both 2 and 3, replicating the same accomplishment achieved by his sire.
As a juvenile, Seize the Grey broke his maiden at Saratoga Race Course, defeating future Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Dornoch . He was then triumphant with a front-running victory in the Pat Day Mile Stakes (G2) on the undercard of the Kentucky Derby (G1). From there, Seize the Grey became a dual grade 1 winner and one of the top 3-year-olds of his crop by going wire-to-wire in both the Preakness Stakes (G1) and the Pennsylvania Derby (G1).
Also joining the Gainesway roster after contesting the Breeders' Cup Classic (G1) will be grade 1 winner Tapit Trice. At 3, Tapit Trice won the 2023 Blue Grass Stakes (G1) and Tampa Bay Derby (G3) while also placing in the Belmont Stakes (G1) and Travers Stakes (G1). At 4, he won the Woodward Stakes (G2) and the Monmouth Cup Stakes (G3). In the Woodward, he earned a 110 Equibase Speed Figure, the seventh triple-digit ESF of his career. A stud fee for Tapit Trice will be determined upon retirement.
Tapit's other son joining the Gainesway roster in 2025 is grade 2-winning son Charge It who will debut with a stud fee of $12,500. Charge It won the 2022 Dwyer Stakes (G3) by an astounding 23 lengths, with his 114 ESF one of 10 races he registered a triple-digit speed figure. He was also the winner of the 2023 Suburban Stakes (G2) along with being runner-up in the 2022 Florida Derby (G1).
2022 Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes (G1) winner Olympiad will see his first weanlings go through the ring during the upcoming November sale season, including five during Fasig-Tipton's The November Sale. The son of Speightstown will again stand for $35,000.
2021 Woody Stephens Stakes (G1) winner Drain the Clock also unveils his first weanlings this fall, with auction results already of $120,000, $100,000, etc. By the fast-rising sire Maclean's Music , Drain the Clock will stand for $10,000 in 2025.
Karakontie , one of the country's top value turf sires, has seen his résumé continue to grow in 2024 with the rise of multiple grade 1 winner and recent Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup Stakes (G1T) winner She Feels Pretty, as well as grade 3 winner Sugoi. Karakontie will stand for an advertised fee of $15,000.
Multiple grade 1 winner Raging Bull , by Dark Angel, will stand for $10,000. His first crop of yearlings were led by a $420,000 colt that changed hands at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale along with a $410,000 Fasig-Tipton The Saratoga Sale grad.
2019 Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winner Spun to Run , by Hard Spun , will stand for $10,000. His freshman crop of runners is led by stakes-placed Midnight Humor.
Tapwrit , a Belmont Stakes-winning son of Tapit, will stand for $7,500. Multiple stakes winner Lightofmaine leads the way among his runners in 2024.
