Spendthrift Farm went to $2.8 million Nov. 4 to secure grade 2 winner Denim and Pearls, a daughter of the farm's multiple-year leading sire Into Mischief , during Fasig-Tipton's The November Sale, its boutique mixed sale in Lexington.

Denim and Pearls (Hip 240) was bred by Town & Country Horse Farms out of the graded-placed winner Majestic Presence (Majestic Warrior), making her a full sister to Santa Anita Handicap (G1) winner Newgate . The 3-year-old filly raced by Red White and Blue Racing was consigned by Taylor Made Sale Agency.

"Great-looking filly, talented, great family, love the sire," said Ned Toffey, general manager of Spendthrift Farm. "What's not to like? Should be a really nice addition to the broodmare band."

Toffey said no plans have been made for a potential mating, but has a lot of options. "She's really nice, she could go to a lot of really nice stallions."

Denim and Pearls was bought for $500,000 as a yearling by Randy Gullatt, agent, at Fasig-Tipton's Saratoga Sale in 2022. She earned $492,775 during her racing career under the tutelage of Brad Cox and hit the board in five of seven starts. She won the Beaumont Stakes (G2) at Keeneland during this year's spring meet by 9 1/4 lengths.

"That's the first one we've bought," said Toffey of Hip 240. "It (the market) has been very strong. We've gotten outbid on two so far. I think for these high-end mares, the market is really strong so far."
