After standing six seasons in Central Kentucky, 2017 Belmont Stakes (G1) winner Tapwrit will move in 2025 to the Indiana Stallion Station, where the farm's Ryan Campbell said the son of Tapit will be the first classic winner to stand in the Hoosier State.
Campbell said Tapwrit will stand the 2025 season for $2,500 at the farm near Anderson, Ind. At age 10 in 2024, Tapwrit stood the season for $7,500 at Gainesway Farm near Lexington, which, of course, also is the home of Tapit, a three-time leading sire.
Tapwrit made an impression on the Indiana farm with a 2023 filly named Truth From a Dare, who has shown a lot of potential.
"In January of 2023 we bought a mare named Heir to Dare who was very special to our family at the Keeneland January Sale. She was carrying a filly by Tapwrit," Campbell said. "Unfortunately, we lost the mare three days after the filly was born. However, that Tapwrit filly has turned out to be an outstanding foal, and from that point on we have been high on him."
Tapwrit is ranked 105th on the 2024 general sires list (through Dec. 15). Some of his top runners overall include stakes winners Victory Formation, Lightofmaine, and Amstrong.
A $1.2 million yearling, Tapwrit was campaigned to a 4-1-1 record from 13 starts and earnings of more than $1.36 million by Bridlewood Farm, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, and Robert LaPenta. He was trained by Racing Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher.
Tapwrit is out of 2006 Spinaway Stakes (G1) winner Appealing Zophie, by Successful Appeal; who also has produced grade 2 winner Ride a Comet and stakes winner Inject.
Noting Tapwrit set a stakes record in winning the 1 1/16-mile Tampa Bay Derby (G2) in 1:42.36 and then went on to win the 1 1/2-mile Belmont Stakes by two lengths, Campbell believes Tapwrit will be a terrific addition to the farm and the state's breeding program.
"It is so exciting for us to be able to guide this part of his stallion career," Campbell said. "We believe he will make a positive impact on the Indiana program as the first-ever winner of a Triple Crown race to stand in the state. Being by a legendary sire of sires like Tapit and out of a dominant, grade 1-winning mare, Tapwrit has proven he can produce quality runners at any distance already.
"With the addition of state-bred restricted races, we see his foals outperforming expectations here in Indiana."
