Continued freezing temperatures and impending severe weather have led to the cancellation of racing at Oaklawn Park Jan. 10-12, the track announced Jan. 8.
The National Weather Service forecasts snow showers and sleet beginning in the Hot Springs, Ark., area Jan. 9. Snow showers are expected to continue Friday with temperatures as low as 17 degrees Fahrenheit that night. Although no further precipitation is forecast for the weekend, low temperatures on both Saturday and Sunday night are projected in the 20s. With wind chill, those temperatures are likely to feel much lower.
Oaklawn was scheduled to host 10-race cards Friday and Saturday and a nine-race card Sunday. The $150,000 Pippin Stakes for older fillies and mares traveling 1 1/16 miles was scheduled for Saturday and will now be run Jan. 19.
