Grade 3 winner King Zachary was represented by his first winner as a stallion Jan. 11 when King Adolis won the third race at Sam Houston Race Park.
The 3-year-old gelding trained by Alejandro Baldillez Jr. tracked a moderate early pace of :23.59 and :47.32 in the seven-furlong event for $20,000 maiden claimers. Moving up on the outside for jockey Lindey Wade, King Adolis wore down his competition and drew clear for a 1 3/4-length victory, stopping the clock in 1:27.19.
Bred in Texas by Trinity West Stables, King Adolis was purchased for $1,000 by owner Cecil Peters at the 2023 Texas Thoroughbred Association Yearling Sale. He earned his maiden victory in his fifth career start and has now earned $11,505.
King Zachary was a $550,000 purchase out of the 2016 Keeneland September Yearling Sale by Tom Conway, who owned the son of Curlin throughout his racing career.
Trained by Dale Romans to start his career, King Zachary won the 2018 Matt Winn Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs and competed in that season's Travers Stakes (G1), Pennsylvania Derby (G1), Wood Memorial Stakes (G2), and Indiana Derby (G3).
Trained by Graham Motion for a 4-year-old campaign, King Zachary closed his career with a victory in the 1 3/4-mile Birdstone Stakes in 2019 at Saratoga Race Course. King Zachary retired with a record of 4-0-3 from 13 starts for earnings of $366,120.
