Senor Buscador, winner of the 2024 Saudi Cup (G1), has been withdrawn from consideration for the Jan. 25 Pegasus World Cup (G1) and has been retired.
The news was confirmed Jan. 19 on X by owner Joey Peacock Jr. following a Sunday morning workout at Gulfstream Park in which Senor Buscador completed four furlongs in :49.75.
"Our team was not completely happy the way Senor Buscador came out of his work this morning," Peacock Jr. said in the post. "Senor, we will be forever grateful for the ride."
Connections had been considering a return trip to Saudi Arabia to defend his title in the $20 million Saudi Cup Feb. 22 before retiring the 7-year-old son of Mineshaft to stud. That timeline is now expedited as Peacock Jr. confirmed the bay horse's next step will be heading to Lexington sound. No official stud deal has been announced.
Bred in Kentucky by Peacock Jr. and his father, Joe Peacock Sr., Senor Buscador retires with a record of 7-2-3 from 23 starts, earning $12,944,427.
In addition to the Saudi Cup, he won the 2022 Ack Ack Stakes (G3) at Churchill Downs and the 2023 San Diego Handicap (G2) at Del Mar. He also hit the board in a trio of grade 1 events, finishing second in the 2024 Pegasus World Cup (G1) and third in the 2023 Awesome Again Stakes (G1) and 2024 Dubai World Cup (G1). He most recently finished ninth in the Dec. 7 Cigar Mile Handicap (G2) at Aqueduct Racetrack.
