Grade 1 winner Senor Buscador , who aims to continue the legacy of his sire, 2004 Horse of the Year Mineshaft , will stand at Lane's End Farm for $7,500, live foal stands and nurses.
Bred in Kentucky by Joe R. Peacock Sr. and Joe R. Peacock Jr., Senor Buscador retires from racing with $12,944,427 in earnings and was trained by Todd Fincher. He was a stakes winner at ages 2, 4, 5, and 6.
Breaking his maiden at age 2 on debut by 2 1/2 lengths, Senor Buscador then jumped straight into stakes company, winning the 2020 Remington Springboard Mile Stakes by 5 3/4 lengths.
Senor Buscador's stakes success continued with a win in the 2022 Ack Ack Stakes (G3) as a 4-year-old at Churchill Downs. In his first start of 2023, he returned to the winner's circle in the Curribot Handicap at Sunland Park, defeating the field by four lengths. His success continued with a win in the 2023 San Diego Handicap (G2) at Del Mar, earning a 110 Equibase Speed Figure and defeating grade 1 winners Slow Down Andy, Defunded, Royal Ship, and Tripoli. Senor Buscador earned a grade 1 placing in the Awesome Again Stakes (G1) at Santa Anita Park and closed out the year with second-place finish in the Cigar Mile Handicap (G2) at Aqueduct Racetrack.
He got off to a fast start in 2024 with a close second to 2024 champion older dirt male National Treasure in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational Stakes (G1) before traveling to Saudi Arabia where he made a splash winning the $20 million Saudi Cup (G1). Defeating a deep field including grade 1 winners National Treasure, White Abarrio, Saudi Crown, Lemon Pop, and Ushba Tesoro, Senor Buscador set a new stakes record—1 1/8 miles in 1:49.50. His next start was in the United Arab Emirates where he finished third in the Dubai World Cup (G1), contributing to him being the leading North American earner in 2024.
"We are honored that Senor Buscador will take up residence alongside his sire, Mineshaft, at the Farish family's Lanes End Farm now that he is retired from racing," said owner and co-breeder Joe Peacock Jr. "We will support him heavily with mares that we have been purchasing in anticipation of his career at stud. We look forward to breeding and racing the next generation of horses from this important Mineshaft/A.P. Indy sire line."
Out of multiple stakes winner Rose's Desert, Senor Buscador is half to graded stakes winner and multiple stakes winner Runaway Ghost. Rose's Desert also produced stakes winners Our Iris Rose and Sheriff Brown. His sire, Mineshaft, has produced eight grade 1 winners including Dialed In , himself the sire of 3 grade 1 winners and 29 black-type winners. Mineshaft closed out 2024 ranked third on the leading general sires list in North America.
Senor Buscador will be available for inspection starting Jan. 27.
