Pleasant Acres Stallions announced Jan. 24 the arrival of Doppelganger 's first foal—a strong and healthy filly out of Saucy Dame, a daughter of Distorted Humor. Born Friday at 9:30 a.m. ET, the filly is owned by David Perrine of Perrine Time Thoroughbreds.
"The bloodline this filly is blessed with is exceptional," said Pleasant Acres Stallions' director of stallion services Christine Jones.
The foal's second dam is multiple stakes winner Storm Beauty, by Storm Cat. With career earnings of nearly $180,000, she won the 1998 Miss Preakness Stakes and Wilma C. Kennedy Stakes. Storm Beauty is the dam of four-time black-type winner and grade 2-placed Stormy West and grade 3 winner Buffum.
Doppelganger, who stands in Florida, is the only grade 1-winning son of Into Mischief in the United States who is not standing in Kentucky. Effective at ages 2 and 3, he recorded four wins as a 4-year-old, including in the Carter Handicap (G1) at Aqueduct Racetrack.
Doppelganger is out of Twice the Lady, a stakes-winning daughter of Quiet American.
Tom Ryan of SF Racing, which campaigned Doppelganger in partnership with Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Robert Masterson, Jay Schoenfarber, Waves Edge Capital, Catherine Donovan, Golconda Stable, and Siena Farm, called the horse "one of the most spectacular animals you will lay eyes on" during his racing career.
"We felt he was the spitting image of Authentic," he added of the $570,000 auction purchase.
Doppelganger, who entered stud in 2024, stands at Pleasant Acres Stallions for $10,000 this year.
