With only intermittent drizzles of rain at Santa Anita Jan. 26, training proceeded as scheduled. Among the notable workers were the 3-year-olds Barnes, Getaway Car, and Rodriguez for trainer Bob Baffert, and grade 1-winner Tamara for trainer Richard Mandella.
Barnes, Getaway Car, and Rodriguez are all nominated to the Feb. 1 Robert B. Lewis Stakes (G3) going a mile at Santa Anita Park. Barnes, who won the San Vicente Stakes (G2) going seven furlongs in his stakes debut Jan. 4, worked four furlongs in :48 3/5. Barnes closed as the 6-1 individual favorite in last weekend's Kentucky Derby Future Wager.
Getaway Car and Rodriguez worked in company and were each clocked in :59 3/5, which tied for the fourth-fastest of 36 works at the distance. Getaway Car, by Curlin , most recently was second in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2) Dec. 14. Rodriguez exits a promising maiden win going a mile at Santa Anita on Jan. 4.
Tamara worked for the second time since being scratched from the La Brea Stakes (G1) Dec. 26 due to a fever. The daughter of Bolt d'Oro and Hall of Fame mare Beholder worked four furlongs in :47 1/5. Last Sunday, Tamara returned to the tab with a three-furlong work in :37 1/5.
In all, there were 129 timed workouts between the main track and training track.
