Veterinarian Dr. John Wiseman of Batavia, Ill., died Jan. 24. He was 79.
He was recently buried in his hometown of Metropolis, Ill.
A graduate of the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine, Wiseman owned and operated the Illinois Equine Field Service in Elburn, Ill., for many years. Illinois Equine Field Service merged with Lewis Veterinary Services when Wiseman retired.
Wiseman and his wife Candice also bred, sold, and raced Thoroughbreds. Among the horses they bred were the stakes horses Tizgorgeous, Shanghai Red, and Nikobe. Those horses went through auctions in Kentucky at Keeneland or Fasig-Tipton.
As owners, the Wisemans won 26 races, represented by runners from 2000-21.
