Santa Anita Derby (G1) winner and Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up Journalism will be entered in the $2 million Preakness Stakes (G1) at Pimlico Race Course May 17, co-owners Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners confirmed May 11.

The son of Curlin  has remained in training at Churchill Downs following his 1 1/2-length defeat to Sovereignty in the May 3 Kentucky Derby. Trainer Michael McCarthy returned to Churchill Downs from his California base May 11.

Sunday afternoon, Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners posted on X that McCarthy has "green-lighted him" to run in the Preakness. Eclipse added they "look forward to showcasing Journalism's talents in Baltimore in such a coveted American Classic" with jockey Umberto Rispoli in the irons.

The 7-2 favorite on the first Saturday in May, Journalism is expected to be the favorite again when post positions are drawn May 12 at 7 p.m. ET.

Bred in Kentucky by Don Alberto Corporation, Journalism was an $825,000 purchase at the 2023 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling Sale. Through six starts, he has a record of 4-1-1 for earnings of $1,638,880.

Journalism races for the partnership of Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Bridlewood Farm, Don Alberto Stable, Robert LaPenta, Elayne Stables 5, Mrs. John Magnier, Michael Tabor, and Derrick Smith.
