Donnacha O'Brien's star filly Porta Fortuna will miss her planned return in the Matron Stakes (G1) and may not be seen on the track again following a decision to sell her.
The four-time group 1 winner looked set to have a productive season after a win in the group 2 Lanwades Stakes at the Curragh on her return to action in May, but she suffered a setback when being aimed to Royal Ascot, having landed the Albany Stakes (G3) there as a juvenile and the Coronation Stakes (G1) last year.
It had been hoped that the Caravaggio filly could make her comeback in the Matron at Leopardstown in a fortnight, for which she had been the 15-8 market leader, but that plan has now been scrapped.
"We were just going to run out of time with her fitness-wise," O'Brien said. "She had a bit of an injury and we had to give her a bit of time to get over it, which she did, and she is moving very well. But she put on a bit of conditioning when we gave her the break, and we were going to run out of time to get back for the Matron.
"She was always going to be sold at the end of this year, so when she wasn't going to make the Matron, the owners decided that we would just go straight to the sales."
