Trainer John Sadler was effusive in praise for Hey Nay Nay following the colt's seven-length tour de force in Monmouth Park's Tyro Stakes, naming the Breeders' Cup as the end goal for the son of No Nay Never. Whether that be the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf (G1T) around two turns or the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint (G1T) could be determined after the Sept. 7 Del Mar Turf Juvenile (G3T) at one mile.
Although No Nay Never was distinguished for his speed as a racehorse and has gone on to sire a number of top 2-year-olds in Europe, Hey Nay Nay is a half sibling to the consistent stayer Global Storm, who took the 2023 Dubai Gold Cup (G2) over 1 1/2 miles.
Campaigned by Hronis Racing and Iapetus Racing, Hey Nay Nay has been perfect in his first two starts sprinting, clocking a sub :57 five-furlong time in both his Santa Anita Park debut win and in the Tyro. He achieved both victories in gate-to-wire fashion.
Hector Berrios, aboard for the colt's maiden win at Santa Anita, will ride Hey Nay Nay in Del Mar's Sunday $100,000 feature. The pair are scheduled to break from post 5 in a deep field.
There are several last-out maiden winners set to challenge Hey Nay Nay in their stakes debuts, among them notable grass winners Love the Pressure from the Michael McCarthy barn, and the Phil D'Amato-trained Later Than Planned.
